World Book Day

Today’s World Book and Copyright Day. When I was pondering what to write for this occasion I ran through a few book titles, starting with my own novel, Hitler and Mars Bars. And that got me thinking – about ‘and’. Ever noticed how many book titles use the word ‘and’ to pair two words or phrases? There’s quite a few. Places, people, objects, emotions – lots of things can be linked.

How many books can you name that use this structure for their title?

Crime and Punishment

Pride and Prejudice

The Sound and the Fury

The Old Man and the Sea

Heart and Soul

How about some less familiar ones?

The Root and the Flower

The Well and the Mine

Mules and Men

Protect and Defend

Pond Lake and Paris

How many others can you add to my list?

I love finding interesting book titles. If a title grabs me, I’m more likely to pick up the book and read it. What do you think makes a memorable book title?
